Hello, and welcome to my site!

My name is Joey Yovino-Young and I compose and play music that you can listen to here. I primarily use layered keyboards and electric bass. I also play bass and sing in a bluesy rocknroll trio called llamachew. Otherwise I am most interested in composing textured soundscapes for film and video projects. My musical inspirations span the spectrum: Count Basie, Thelonious Monk and Hoagy Carmichael; the Minutemen, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Apfelbaum and John Lennon...and the ambient wonders of Brian Eno and Harold Budd.

If you are looking for such sounds as I produce, feel free to contact me at joey@llamachew.com.

I’ve lived in Oakland CA for 16 years, and grew up in Berkeley during the 1960s and 70s. Previous rocknroll bands of mine were Ferdinand (after the Munro Leaf story) and Berkeley High alumni trio, The Bliss Cadets. My latest mega-adventure—from 2001 to 2004—was co-founding and later managing a nonprofit community-supported performance arts space and gallery in downtown Oakland, California, called Oakland Box Theater (also known as The Black Box). During its 3-year tenure—an all-volunteer effort—the Box provided the Oakland Bay Area with a stellar legacy of community arts activism. Though the original space has since closed, the Box organization continues to thrive at its present location at 2232 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Oakland.
